The ground has been broken on what will be the central hub of the Rosalind Franklin Institute, an interdisciplinary life-sciences research facility that is set to open in late 2020.
The start of the construction of the facility on 17 May is a significant milestone in the creation of the institute, which was announced by the government in 2015.
The institute, which was allocated £103 million by the UK government in 2017, is a collaborative venture between the Science and Technology Facilities Council and 10 UK universities. Funding for the institute is managed by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
