UKRI appoints two strategy directors in job-share partnership

Two former civil servants are to take over from Rebecca Endean as executive director of strategy and governance at UK Research and Innovation.

Emma Lindsell, director of commercial, infrastructure and urban growth at the New Zealand Treasury, and Isobel Stephen, housing director at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, will take up the most senior role below chief executive at the umbrella funding agency, UKRI announced on 13 June.

The pair have previously job-shared as business strategy director at the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions between 2011 and 2013, and later as housing supply director at the housing ministry (then known as the Department for Communities and Local Government) between 2015 and 2017.
