Spending review boost welcome but leaves many questions

Sector looks to next year for detail on R&D funding following this year’s ‘anaemic’ boost

The government’s commitment to invest almost £15 billion into R&D over the next year has been broadly welcomed by the sector.

In a spending review dominated by the coronavirus, the government promised £14.6bn for R&D in 2021-22, including £11.1bn in R&D funding for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
