UKRI CEO calls for research council budgets to be restored

Ottoline Leyser hopes the organisation can work in a more ‘trust-based way’ with government

Without proper financing by the government, the national funding agency UK Research and Innovation risks being “straight-jacketed”, the chief executive of UKRI has warned.

Ottoline Leyser made the comments during the Campaign for Science and Engineering’s 2020 annual lecture on 5 November in response to a question about the balance of funding in the R&D system ahead of the government’s one-year spending review.
