UKRI promises to keep some EDI awards, despite red tape review

Funder commits to using recognition awards ‘where they contribute to the achievement of our aims’

UK Research and Innovation has said it will continue to use certain awards recognising commitment to equality and diversity, despite the government’s recent request to cut bureaucracy.

The comment comes as some of the major award schemes on gender and race equality are also undergoing their own reviews, and there is disagreement in the community over how helpful they really are in improving research culture—a major focus of this government.
