QR funding for English universities to rise by 10%

Research England allocations reward REF 2021 results and include boosts for doctoral and charity research

Quality-related research funding for English universities is set to increase by 10 per cent in the next academic year, Research England has announced.

QR funding will rise from £1.789 billion in the 2021-22 academic year to £1.974bn in 2022-23—an increase of 10 per cent—according to allocations published by the funder on 14 July. The funding is expected to stay at the same level in 2023-24.
