Research England executive chair Jessica Corner discusses the future of the country’s keystone funder
Jessica Corner used to spend her time caring for patients on the hectic wards of an NHS hospital. But after ditching the scrubs, the former nurse has risen through the ranks to preside over England’s biggest public research funder as executive chair of Research England.
“When I started out at 18 in a career in nursing,” she tells Research Fortnight, “I would never have imagined that I would have ended up doing a number of things that I have in my career—certainly not being responsible for the research and development system [for] universities in England. It’s been an extraordinary journey.”
