UK rare disease R&D landscape mapped for the first time

   

Funders hope project will help “focus areas for future funding and better target needs”

A detailed picture of the UK’s rare disease research landscape has been captured for the first time in a new report.

The report—published on 22 September by the two largest national health funders the National Institute for Health and Care Research and the Medical Research Council— found that over £1.1 billion was invested by government and charities in rare disease research from 2016 to 2021.
