Patrick Vallance’s rethink of appointment seen as intending to help drive impact of research

The Labour government’s decision to reopen the recruitment process to find the next UK Research and Innovation chief executive has been seen as signalling a change of policy direction.

On 30 August, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology announced that recruitment for the post, which had reached an advanced stage under the Conservatives, was being reopened.
