Universities lay out concerns over White Paper reforms

Mission groups representing all universities have expressed concern at plans laid out in the government’s Higher Education White Paper, published on 28 June.

While different groups welcomed sections of the 83-page paper, overall plans to create a more competitive system of higher education drew criticisms. Top concerns relate to how lifting caps on student places for high achievers will affect social mobility and how rewarding lower-charging institutions could drive down quality.
