Unpaid student debts ‘could cost £8.7bn a year’

Unpaid student debts under the new tuition-fee system will cost the government £8.7 billion per year, a report has found.

The report, “First Steps to Wealth”, was published by financial investment company Skandia. It warns that the annual bill could be even larger when factors such as student numbers and the rate of inflation are taken into account.
