Collective redundancies plans will hit universities, warns UCU

The UK government’s announcement that unions will no longer have the legal right to be consulted about widespread redundancies of staff on fixed-term contracts will hit universities hard, the Universities and College Union has warned.

The changes, announced by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills on 18 December, also reveal plans to cut a 90-day consultation period before redundancies can take place to 45 days.
