Student numbers drop by 54,000

The number of UK and EU students recruited by UK universities has dropped by almost 54,000 since last year, according to University and College Admissions Service figures.

The 11 per cent fall follows the rise in tuition fees. About half the decline was caused by a drop in deferrals, says UCAS’ “end of cycle report”, published on 13 December.
