University groups give verdict Ebdon appointment

The Russell group of research-intensive universities has said it “sincerely hopes” that Les Ebdon, the next director of the Office for Fair Access, will “come to recognise” the tough challenges posed by the aim of widening access to higher education.

Its position came in response to the government’s decision, announced yesterday, to appoint Ebdon, chairman of the Million+ university group, as head of the organisation.
