University applications drop in England

University applications in England are 8.8 per cent lower this year compared with 2010, when tuition fees of up to £9,000 had not yet been announced.

A report published on 9 August by the Independent Commission on Fees did not find a similar decline in parts of the UK where fees have not been increased.
