UUK urges calm over clearing panic

‘Doom-laden’ forecasts of university applicants failing to get a place during the clearing process invariably turn out to be wrong, according to a statement from vice-chancellors’ umbrella group Universities UK.

Nicola Dandridge, chief executive of UUK, says she does not think that changes to the admissions process this year—such as increased tuition fees and the government’s decision to allow universities to recruit an unlimited number of students achieving AAB grades at A-level—will have an impact.
