King’s psychiatry institute wins £5m for schizophrenia project

The Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London has received £5 million from the Medical Research Council to research ways to predict how people will respond to schizophrenia medication.

The institute says in a statement that 30 per cent of patients who fail to respond to particular medicines do not get alternatives quickly. This, it claims is both wasteful and also lowers the quality of life for patients.

The university hopes that by predicting how patients respond to medicines, prescriptions will be better targeted.
