Plans to save the University of London's Millport marine biology station off the west coast of Scotland could include renting out space to researchers, it has emerged.
The station is due to close at the end of the year after the news last December that the Higher Education Funding Council for England was pulling its funding and the university said it could no longer run the facility.
The station is based on the small island of Great Cumbrae and keeps historical records of the local marine environment.
