Queen’s University Belfast wins Gates money

Researchers at Queen’s University Belfast have received $200,000 (£132,000) from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for work on tropical diseases.

The projects will form part of the work conducted at the university’s Institute for Global Food Security. Both projects are led by research fellows in the university’s School of Biological Sciences.

Paul McVeigh will receive $100,000 for work on diagnosis of lymphatic filariasis. Johnathan Dalzell will lead a $100,000 project to develop crops containing drugs for elephantiasis, trypanosomiasis and other diseases.
