UCL looks for alternative site for Stratford campus

University College London has scrapped plans to build a £1 billion campus at the Carpenters Estate in Newham, East London, announcing it has failed to reach an agreement with Newham Council.

In a statement on 7 May, Malcolm Grant, president and provost of UCL, said “the process has reaffirmed the commitment of both parties to establishing a UCL presence in Stratford” and that the university is now looking for alternative sites in the area.

The university first announced the plans for the campus in November 2011, saying the move would allow the university to boost both student numbers and research capacity.
