Nick Jennings, a professor at the University of Southampton, has been honoured with the UK’s first Regius Professorship in computer science.
Jennings, who leads the Agents, Interaction and Complexity group at the university, is also the government’s chief scientific adviser on national security. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2005.
Since 2012, Regius professorships in a variety of subjects have been bestowed on 12 universities, including Southampton, to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee. Southampton was recognised for its strong performance in the teaching and research of computer science. It is up to the universities to decide which individual should be honoured.
