Seven university research projects will receive more than £100 million from the UK government in 2016-17 from the fourth round of the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund.
Altogether, the projects have secured more than £350m of industry investment, according to the Higher Education Funding Council for England, which published the results on 26 March.
To be eligible for the funding, applicants have to generate at least double the amount they apply for from external sources.
