A group of northern universities and NHS hospital trusts has received £2.9 million from the Higher Education Funding Council for England to help support the next five years of its work.
The HEFCE award was secured by Newcastle University, a founding member of the group, along with Durham University, the Hull York Medical School, Lancaster University, the University of Leeds, the University of Manchester and the University of Sheffield, as well as eight regional NHS trusts. Together the organisations cover a patient population of 15 million.
The Northern Health Science Alliance has set itself the task of establishing an “internationally recognised” life science and healthcare economy in the north of England.
