The Bloomsbury Research Institute, a joint initiative of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and University College London, will be headed by microbiologist Sharon Peacock.
Peacock is professor of clinical microbiology at the University of Cambridge and deputy chairwoman of the Medical Research Council’s infection and immunity board. She has already started working for the institute, and will take on its directorship full-time from September.
The institute will focus on major global infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, HIV and malaria, as well as neglected tropical diseases, emerging pathogens and antimicrobial resistance.
