The University of Aberdeen has said that it aims to cut 150 staff in order to increase its financial stability in the expectation of tough times ahead.
A spokeswoman for the university said that its staff costs made up 59.5 per cent of its overall budget, against an average of 53.3 per cent among higher education institutions, and that consequently it had “less flexibility to react to new challenges and opportunities”, according to a report from STV News.
The university’s court has approved a scheme of voluntary severance and early retirement aimed at cutting about 150 posts, the report says.
