St Andrews plans to raise £10m for marine research facility

St Andrews University is to construct a permanent home for its Scottish Oceans Institute to replace the Gatty Marine facility.

The £10-million facility will replace the old facility (pictured) on the Fife coast, which the university described as internationally renowned but outdated.

In a statement announcing the plans on 6 January, the university said that the new building would have a 2,256 square-metre floor plan and a “smart aquarium”, as well as housing a public outreach centre.
