Guidance produced by Arts Council England and the University Alliance has urged arts organisations and businesses to invest in R&D and work with universities to share knowledge.

The guidance, A Clearer Picture: A guide for arts and cultural organisations engaging with universities, published on 27 October, calls for greater collaboration between cultural organisations and universities.

The guide explains that businesses investing in R&D grow twice as fast as non-innovators and by working with universities, companies are able to reduce costs and “utilise the diversity of knowledge and skills available” in academia. Arts organisations can also actively pursue research with academic partners through contract research, collaborative research and knowledge transfer partnerships.
