The UK government will discuss the N8 group of universities distributing a share of a £100m fund for university-business collaborations in the north of England.
The government’s Northern Powerhouse strategy, published alongside the autumn statement, revealed that it plans to grant the N8 group a share of the existing fund announced in October, which is administered by the Higher Education Funding Council for England at present.
Members of N8 will meet officials from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to discuss how to take forward the government’s proposals to use the funding to help universities commercialise their research and to support start-up businesses and those looking to become bigger, known as scale-ups.
