Russell Group urges more government spending on frontier research

The Russell Group has teamed up with other groups of research-intensive universities across the world to lobby for long-term investment into frontier research.

Ten lobby groups representing universities published a joint statement on 8 November calling for "long-term and substantial investment" in frontier research, to help address challenges posed by ageing, global warming and terrorism.

In addition to the Russell Group, the so-called Tokyo statement was signed by the League of European Research Universities, the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities, the Association of East Asian Research Universities, and the Association of American Universities.
