The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities has called on the national governments of European Union member states—including the UK—to guarantee free movement of students and researchers.
The lobby group made three pleas aimed at maintaining European university collaboration in a statement published on 5 August by one of its members, the University of Glasgow.
It said that free flow of academics and university students should be a crucial objective of the Brexit negotiations. “The EU has succeeded in creating highly effective cross-border funding mechanisms for collaborative research, innovation and mobility: to compromise these as a result of Brexit could cause irreparable damage to the knowledge societies of Europe,” the group said.
