Russell Group vice-chancellors and senior staff met senior European Commission officials this week to stress the importance of academic collaboration in the wake of Brexit.
The UK delegation—led by Leszek Borysiewicz, vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and Koen Lamberts, vice-chancellor of the University of York—met Carlos Moedas, the commissioner for research, science and innovation, on 30 August, along with other senior European Commission officials. Delegates also held a separate meeting that day with Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, president of the European Research Council, and met with a cross-party group of MEPs.
In a statement, the Russell Group said that its delegation championed academic collaboration, research funding and the huge contribution European Union staff and students make to its universities.
