Huddersfield launches metrology research hub

The University of Huddersfield and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council are funding a £40-million metrology research centre to drive the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’.

Metrology, the science of measurement, is considered a vital element in future manufacturing technologies as firms continue to demand greater accuracy and efficiency in their increasingly complex and automated production processes, the university said in a statement on 15 September.

The centre, known as the Future Metrology Hub, will develop embedded metrology technologies and a universal metrology informatics system to integrate design, production and verification.
