Home Office unsure over visa rejections

Government cannot provide visa refusal numbers without ‘manual trawl’ through all applications

As concern grows over the problems that academics visiting the UK face in obtaining visas, the Home Office has admitted that it cannot say how many visa requests it has refused.

It says the only way it can ascertain this number is by looking at each individual case record. Yet in July alone there were 420,000 visa applications.
