On 26 April 1999, journalist Jill Dando was shot dead on the doorstep of her London home. The crime remains unsolved to this day.
The murder became a public obsession, not least because the popular presenter of the BBC show Crimewatch had spent much of her career pursuing criminals.
Following her untimely death, her co-presenter Nick Ross could think of no better tribute to his colleague Dando than to set up an academic institute dedicated to the study of crime.
