The University of Oxford is to set up a hub for the humanities, which will host an institute to study ethics in artificial intelligence, thanks to a landmark £150-million donation from the American businessman Stephen Schwarzman.

The donation, which Oxford says is the largest it has received “since the Renaissance”, will support a humanities hub that will bring humanities subjects under one roof, alongside a library and exhibition areas.

The Stephen A Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities will also be the base of the university’s Institute for Ethics in AI, which will allow for the study of the ethical ramifications of AI.
