Edinburgh and Glasgow snag £6m of Scottish GCRF cash

The Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow have been awarded the lion’s share of the £11.8-million Global Challenges Research Fund money being allocated to Scottish institutions in 2019-20.

The total GCRF pot allocated to the Scottish Funding Council for 2019-20 is a £1.5m increase from the £10.3m awarded to Scottish institutions in 2018-19. Earlier this year, Research England said that English universities would receive £68m in quality-related GCRF money.

The allocations to individual universities in Scotland are awarded in proportion to their Research Excellence Grants, the Scottish funding formula that takes into account the Research Excellence Framework.
