Nancy Rothwell sorry for her false apology claim in Newsnight interview over alleged racial profiling

University of Manchester vice-chancellor Nancy Rothwell has said she is “devastated” after it became clear she had not apologised to the student at the centre of an alleged racial profiling row—despite telling the BBC’s Newsnight programme that she had done so.

Rothwell confirmed that although she told the BBC’s Newsnight programme during a “difficult interview” on 19 November that she had written to the student to apologise, it “was in fact incorrect”.
