Spending review a ‘missed opportunity’ for higher education

Universities get no mention in chancellor’s 2021-22 spending plans

The 25 November spending review was a mixed bag for R&D, but it had little to offer higher education. The words ‘university’ and ‘universities’, and the term ‘higher education’ do not even appear in the 122-page document containing the details of the review.

The government previously promised to publish its response to the Augar review of post-18 education and the independent review of the Teaching Excellence Framework alongside the spending review, but there was no sign of these either.
