University finances ‘relatively positive’ despite Covid-19

But regulator for England warns of challenges ahead

Universities in England are in a better financial position than initially feared during the Covid-19 crisis, but the Office for Students has warned of “considerable uncertainties in the future”.

In an analysis of the financial stability of English universities published on 11 December, the OfS said that a range of things have all combined to leave higher education in “a reasonably stable financial position”.
