IT experts urge universities to up their game following spate of cyberattacks

Universities should treat cybersecurity “like an arms race” following a number of attacks on higher education institutions, academics have warned.

David Wall, chair in criminology at the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, told Research Professional News that while universities “regularly” suffer cyberattacks, “we are generally witnessing an increase in the enormity of cyberattacks via ransomware” with a spike in attacks on large businesses, including universities.
