University offers compassionate leave to BAME academics

Loughborough responds to disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on BAME community

Black, Asian and minority ethnic academics are to be offered compassionate leave and counselling by Loughborough University in recognition of the negative impacts of race-based stress.

The university announced on 25 September that it was granting two weeks of pre-approved optional compassionate leave for BAME staff in response to the “unequal negative health impacts of Covid-19 on the BAME community and the collective trauma of the anti-Black violence brought to light by the international Black Lives Matter movement”.
