IFS analysis finds inflation-related cuts to maintenance loans worse than first appeared

Students will lose more money than first forecast during the cost of living crisis as the maintenance loan is not rising with inflation, an economic think tank has warned.

An analysis by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, published today, warns that students living in England “will be hit even harder by the cost of living crisis than previously thought”, because their maintenance loans rise with forecast inflation rather than actual inflation.
