Major research universities dominate the topic that attracted the highest number of submissions
Imperial College London tops the table in the Research Professional News ranking for engineering, following the results of the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
Submissions to the REF are broken down across 34 topic areas, or units of assessment. While large universities with expertise dominate the rankings on the overall league table across a swathe of topics, smaller institutions can carry more weight when it comes to individual units of assessment.
