Grant allocations show reduction in cash for research at higher education institutions after REF 2021

Eight of Scotland’s universities are facing cuts to their funding next year, leading vice-chancellors to warn that the reputation of Scottish research and innovation is “at risk”.

Allocations for the 2022-23 academic year published by the Scottish Funding Council on 26 May reveal that eight institutions out of 18 will lose funding from the Research Excellence Grant, which is set using the recent Research Excellence Framework results.
