Historian starts in role as first female leader of the university

Evelyn Welch has begun in her role as the University of Bristol’s vice-chancellor, becoming the first female to lead the Russell Group university.

Welch, who served as King’s College London’s (KCL) interim president in 2021, officially takes up the job today (5 September). She succeeds former vice-chancellor Hugh Brady, who had been vice-chancellor of the university since 2015.
