Ayrshire and East Yorkshire among locations being considered to host prototype plant

Five sites have been shortlisted to host a new fusion energy power plant as part of a government-funded programme aimed at generating low-carbon electricity.

Funded by the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production programme, known as STEP, seeks to demonstrate the ability to generate electricity from fusion energy on a commercial scale.
