Southampton defends in-person exams after student concerns

Russell Group university says “significant number of exams” will also take place online this month

The University of Southampton has said that students’ concerns over in-person exams this month have been taken “very seriously”, after worries that some students would avoid taking Covid-19 tests to avoid missing assessments.

The university’s student union urged vice-chancellor Mark E. Smith to move all exams online this month, amid high case numbers of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, in letters sent on 12 and 13 January.
