Universities urged to bolster support for core maths at school

   

Societies call on institutions to include core maths in entry requirements

Universities should incentivise undergraduate students to take “core maths” qualifications at school by allowing it as an alternative entry requirement to some courses.

In a joint statement published on 16 January, the British Academy and the Royal Society warned that there is a “substantial unmet need” for people across arts, humanities and social science disciplines to have a higher-level understanding of maths.
