UCU and UUK issue joint statement on restoring pension benefits to previous level

The industrial dispute between universities and employees over reforms to the Universities Superannuation Scheme could be set to come to an end after both sides confirmed plans to restore pension benefits.

Industrial action relating to the USS pension fund, including a series of strikes that caused widespread disruption across the UK, has been taking place since 2018. It was escalated following benefit cuts that were proposed in 2021 and introduced in April 2022 in response to the poor performance of the fund.
