Fossil fuel industry funding ruled out by UK university department

York environment department adopts policy “important to students” despite collaboration with Brazilian oil company

A top-ranking environmental sciences department has declared it will no longer accept research funding from fossil fuel companies, having done so as recently as 2019.

“We are committed to leading by example and are refusing to take research funding from any companies closely connected to the fossil fuel industry,” the University of York’s department of environment and geography announced on 26 October.
